Fine Art + Photography
Jack Samels is a Minneapolis based collage artist and photographer born in 1988 in West Virginia, USA. I think of my abstract collage work as painting with found ink, discovering freedom in the limitations of paper and glue. The razor mark sometimes evident, these gestural pieces aim to elicit the vague shape of memory, real or not. Rooted in color and composition, the evocative forms play in a tension that helps distill the textural complexity into moments of visual poetry.
As a photographer I am interested in finding similar poetic moments.
