Chrome Pretzel
Handmade Collage

This collage series is a result of two observations.

First, using the photography of others to create my compositions felt like drafting a poem with someone else’s sentences. A deeper level of ownership arose from making
and physically cutting my own photographs.

Secondly and more conceptually, the behavior of light waves that carry color and shape to our brains has been a recent obsession of mine. The metal pipes and tubes function as convex mirrors, absorbing the scene around them and reflecting a complex tangle of color and form that is further woven by my physical layering of paper in the studio. I revealed more negative space in the recent works for clarity of the compositions. I know my comprehension of physical science is absurdly limited but these visual experiments fuel my curiosity of mathematics and all the poetic moments offered by invisible forces around us.

Photographic artist living and working in Amsterdam, NL.

My most recent series is chrome pretzel (june 2018).
